Sleep to Lose Weight?
Nutritionist Cherie Calbom believes it’s possible to lose weight while sleeping.
She is so sure, she’s making the rounds promoting her new book, Sleep Away the Pounds.
Among her recommendations:
Wiggle your toes 12 times prior to going to sleep to signal the brain that it’s time to rest and keep calcium supplements beside your bed because a lack of calcium can reduce the amount and quality of your sleep.
The book implements a three-week program to help improve sleep and thereby lose weight.
Numerous studies have shown “that people who sleep less than four hours a night are nearly 75 percent more likely to be obese than those who get a full night’s rest†Colbom said.
She explains how lack of sleep creates an imbalance between the hormones ghrelin (which make you want to eat more) and leptin (which control your appetite).
So, if you get enough sleep, you won’t have the munchies and you’ll lose weight.
