Psychoses

Description

Psychoses are mental disorders characterized by the occurrence of delusions, hallucinations, incoherence and distorted perceptions of reality that causes impaired social or work functioning. Insomnia or excessive sleepiness is a common feature of psychoses.

Diagnosis

Patients have severe difficulty initiating sleep and significant sleep disruption. Extreme anxiety and preoccupation with delusions or hallucinations may result in hyperactivity. The agitated patient will then remain awake until exhaustion. A partial or complete inversion of the day-night cycle may be seen.
