Periodic Breathing

Description

Periodic breathing is usually applied to infants, as they appear to stop breathing at times during sleep. While this may worry some first-time parents, such breathing is completely normal.

Diagnosis

It’s important to notice if the child changes color at all. If his or her lips or skin turn blue, they are not exhibiting periodic breathing and should be taken for medical care immediately.

Treatment

While periodic breathing is harmless, other apneas and breathing disorder are not and should be treated accordingly.
