Peptic Ulcer Disease

Description

Peptic ulcer disease is characterized by painful sores or ulcers in the lining of the stomach or the first part of the small intestine, called the duodenum.

Diagnosis

The main sleep-related feature of this disorder is spontaneous pain in the abdomen area occurring at night. The pain is usually a dull, steady ache rather than severe pain and appears most often during the first four hours of sleep. The pain is usually intermittent, but can produce awakenings from sleep leading to the complaint of insomnia.
