Excessive Fragmentary Myoclonus
Description
Excessive fragmentary myoclonus is characterized by muscle twitches in the fingers, toes and edges of the mouth. Movements can occur for several hours during the night and can also occur while the patient is awake.
Diagnosis
This disorder is most common among adult men. It is diagnosed in patients who complain of daytime sleepiness related to muscle contractions. Patients may also have other sleep or movement disorders.
Treatment
Clonazepam is the most commonly prescribed treatment. Other anti-convulsant medications may work as well.
