Cataplexy

Description

Cataplexy is a condition associated with moments of muscular paralysis. Sufferers will typically fall to the ground as if struck down. It is usually precipitated by feelings of excitement, sadness or anger. The condition can be caused by both narcolepsy and the medications Modafinil and Provigil.

Diagnosis

Sufferers will complain of muscular failure immediately following feelings of extreme emotion.

Treatment

This disorder is treated with a variety of medications including the anti-depressant Imipramine.
