Anxiety Disorders

Description

Anxiety disorders are mental disorders characterized by symptoms of anxiety and avoidance behavior. The sleep disturbance associated with anxiety disorders is characterized by the patient having a hard time falling asleep or difficulty maintaining sleep due to excessive anxiety and stress about one or more life circumstances.

Diagnosis

Patients have frequent awakenings either with or without anxiety dreams. Anxiety attacks may be experienced during periods of wakefulness while lying in bed. Patients may also express intense anxiety during the day about the inevitability of a poor night’s sleep.
