Akathisia
Description
Also known as Akathasia, this condition is an internal feeling of restlessness or anxiety. It is most commonly found in Parkinson’s patients though it can also be a side effect of certain medications such as certain antipsychotic drugs, Clonazepam, Klonopin, PMS-Clonazepam and Chlorpromazine Hydrochloride.
Diagnosis
Sufferers will generally complain of extended anxiety or restlessness. Patients are typically unable to sit still and will pace for sometimes hours on end. Light sufferers may not have an inability to sleep.
Treatment
Treatments include changing the medication that is causing the condition and beginning a new medication to fight the anxiety and restlessness.
