Teens and Insomnia

March 24, 2008 – A study released by the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston have found that teens (ages 11-17) that have chronic insomnia tend to have problems with depression, schoolwork, drug use, jobs and perceived health.
The study was released in the Journal of Adolescent Health and indicated that over 3,000 adolescents that were interviewed still had the same problem one year later. The lead author for the study, Robert E. Roberts indicated that 24% of those teens interviewed met the symptom criteria for insomnia, which is considered a psychiatric condition by the American Psychiatric Association.
