Help! I Share the Bed with a Snorer!
We all know there is nothing pleasant about sleeping next to a snorer. The sound can become like fingernails on a chalkboard.
It can keep you awake for hours and trigger all sorts of responses – kicking the sleeper, silently taking it, getting angry, or getting up.
If you’re one of those who prides herself on getting used to the snoring and sleeping through it, listen up.
Research has shown that people who share a bed with a snorer suffer increased hearing loss.
Beyond getting help for your own sleep situation, you owe it to your loved one to encourage him to get help, too. But don’t sit in the waiting room. See the doctor with him, after all you know the nature of his sleep better than anyone – you’re awake.
You may be able to help the doctor best understand how to help your partner.
In the meantime, here are some steps to helping yourself:
- Get ear plugs. If the store-bought type are uncomfortable, you can get custom made ear plugs.
- Put carpeting and heavy curtains in your bedroom to absorb some of that noise
- Sew a tennis ball into the back of your partner’s shirt so he doesn’t sleep on his back
- Consider a white-noise machine to mask the noise.
