Ethnicity in Women May Determine Their Sleep Disturbances
April 14, 2008 – Women in general, compared to men, tend to suffer from sleep disturbances because of hormones and lifestyles. A new study called the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) indicates that ethnicity within women may be a factor.
The researchers interviewed 1440 women of various ethnic backgrounds about their sleep. From the interview, the researchers found that more African American women than Caucasian women have short sleep, which is five hours or less (12% compared to 8%) and long sleep (11% compared to 9%) which is 9 hours or more.
